Certificate of origin

A Certificate of Origin (often referred to as a "Certificate of Origin") is a document issued by an authorized body that certifies in which country a particular product was manufactured, grown, processed, or manufactured. It is an essential document in international trade and is often required by customs authorities to confirm the origin of the goods and to collect appropriate customs duties and taxes.

As a general rule, a certificate of origin should contain the following information:

  1. Name and address of the exporter: This is usually the seller of the goods.
  2. Name and address of the importer: This is the buyer of the goods.
  3. Description of the goods: This should be detailed enough to identify the exact nature of the goods.
  4. Country of origin: This is the country where the goods were manufactured, grown or processed. In some cases, especially in the case of goods that have been processed in several countries, the rules for determining the country of origin can be complex.
  5. Quantity of goods: This can be the weight, volume, number of units or any other suitable unit of measurement.
  6. Signature and seal of the issuing body: The certificate of origin must be issued and signed by an authorized body to be valid.
